Wind Speed Correlation Between Neighboring Measuring Stations
Abstract
This study provides a wind speed estimation of the target station using wind speed data of the neighboring station despite the mountainous structure of the Southeastern Anatolian Region of Turkey. Within the study, a method to determine the wind speed correlation between neighboring measuring stations with mean distance therebetween is presented. The goal of this study is to improve a prediction model in which the wind speed is given at a particular site to simulate the wind speed of another nearby site which one may estimate the wind power of an area for a short-term period. This method takes into consideration the evolution of the sample cross correlation function (SCCF) of wind velocity in time domain and uses an artificial neural network to perform the wind speed simulation. Six separate pairs of wind data measuring stations at Southeast Anatolian region of Turkey were analysed. Tests results showed that the higher the SCCF value between the two sites was, the better simulation was achieved depending on regional difficulties.
